Foundation Programme

Universal Compassion

The Foundation Programme (FP) is open to everyone and you can join at any point in the year. Through in-depth study and practice on the programme, we learn how to integrate all the meditation practises and wisdom advice from Buddha – on how to solve our problems and reach our full potential – into our normal daily life. In this way we gradually find a deep inner peace and happiness in our lives.

The Foundation Programme offers a structured approach to learning Buddhist meditation and practice through the study of a particular book, with classes consisting of preliminary prayers, guided meditations, teachings and discussion.

Universal Compassion

The Foundation Programme is exploring the book ‘Universal Compassion’, subtitled ‘Inspiring Solutions for Difficult Times’. This book gives a practical and uplifting explanation of how we can transform our day-to-day lives—including even the most demanding and difficult situations—into opportunities for personal and spiritual development. Ancient meditative techniques that have been tried and tested for centuries are brought alive and made relevant to our everyday experiences.

By pointing the way to an unchanging freedom and happiness, this immensely readable book challenges us to grow, and will have a remarkable impact on our life.

The Benefits

Buddhism teaches that to find lasting happiness and meaning in our lives we need to follow a spiritual path. To follow this path it is important to have a close connection with a qualified teacher who can give us personal advice and encouragement, to listen to pure Dharma teachings and to be a part of a strong spiritual community. In this way we are able to gain a deeper understanding of the meaning of Buddha’s teachings, maintain a daily meditation practice that is both focused and powerful, and make genuine spiritual progress.
